Book Review

Nobody can claim that he or she is expert in Spoken English. Do you know all the technical terminologies in different fields? For example, if you want to see a web page designer to design a webpage for you, do you know how to communicate with him or her to describe what you want? In order to communicate well, you would have to know at least what domain name is, what hyperlink is, etc. If a client attends a meeting with the architects, contractors and engineers, he would have to express what he wants. If he does not know the technical terminologies, it is very difficult for him to communicate with the others and for others to know what he wants. The plan might turn out to be completely different from what he wants.

Do you know what to look for when buying a product? This book is informative for purchasing goods because the dialogues will tell you what features to look for when buying e.g. a digital camera- some people do not know what is ‘mega-pixel’. If the shopkeeper knows that you have not done much research on buying the product, they normally would not entertain you long or they might cheat you with the product.

The world market is going to open up following the World Trade Organisation (WTO) plan. In order to keep abreast with globalisation, we need to brace ourselves in our Spoken English and Communication Skills so as to compete with world traders.

Do you know when to say the right thing and when not to say certain things? It helps you to build up a good public relationship and interactive skills with others. People are the best resources to help us to pull the string towards success in life.

My friend commented that this book is informative for purchasing goods because the dialogues will tell you what features to look for when buying e.g. a digital camera
This book is comprehensive and is useful as a handbook for running a three-month ‘Spoken English and Communication Skills’ course for students at an Intermediate level to Advanced level. It is also a useful reference for professionals in improving communication skills, for those in the workplace, and for students in their pre-matriculation stage planning to go overseas to study.
